Christian Aid Week
The final figures for the house-to-house collection in Hitchin and surrounding villages during Christian Aid Week in May show that it raised £16,278. £6,120 of this was gift aided with the effect of increasing the final total to £17,992.
This is about £750 down on last year but is still a remarkable result at a time of economic pressure.
Helen Richardson, the organiser, comments: `Thank you so much to all those who gave their time to organise collectors, knock on doors, donate and fill in the gift aid section of the envelope. Although it seems a lot of effort at the time it is work much needed. You will have seen the recent floods in Pakistan and there are other disasters that don’t reach our news where Christian Aid works to help the poorest of the poor'.
