2019 has been an eventful year in politics and now a General Election has been called and will take place on December 12th.

For the past 30 years, whenever a General Election is called, Churches Together in Hitchin has been organising a hustings event to provide an opportunity for local people to meet with and put questions to their prospective parliamentary candidates. This year was no different!

The customary hustings took place on Tuesday 26th November 7.30 - 9.30 pm at Christchurch, Bedford Road, Hitchin. As in 2017, it was firmly chaired by Rev Canon Jane Mainwaring of St Mark's who ensured that there was generally a good spirit about the proceedings.

All candidates except one (who was unable due to work commitments) were present at the event. It was a lively evening and extremely well attended. A number of questions covering a diverse range of subjects from constituents were put to the candidates.

A very generous, anonymous donation enabled the event to be videoed by HitchinTV and two links to the video can be found below (one is a YouTube link, the other being a link to the video on the HitchinTV website, both are the same video). It is well worth viewing if you were unable to attend the hustings and even if you were able to be there, it is an excellent opportunity to remind oneself of how the candidates came across.
